An Overview and History of Judicial Dispute Resolutions Inc.
J.D.R. is the creation of Timothy J. Rabun, Esq. who began his professional career in 1987 working with “a handful of retired judges and a dog.” In 1990, twelve independent retired judges approached him with a fresh idea to the new alternative to litigation then known as Dispute Resolution. Hence, the name: Judicial Dispute Resolution and in 1991, J.D.R. opened its first office in Costa Mesa as Orange County’s first independent and non-exclusive ADR panel.
The 1991 Mission Statement is the same as in 2013: to provide to the legal profession and business community the most qualified, independent and non-exclusive neutrals from the bench and bar to serve as Mediators, Arbitrators, Discovery Referees and Special Masters.
J.D.R. neutrals are retired Superior Court Judges, Appellate Court Justices and A.D.R. certified Trial Attorneys in addition to an average of 20+ years of trial experience. Fiercely independent and non-exclusive - it is the integrity of these neutrals which remains the hallmark of this panel. J.D.R. panels in California and nationally are intentionally small, manageable and elite.
Aside from basic trade journal and internet advertising, J.D.R. has a long standing policy of promoting privacy and confidentiality. J.D.R. does not grant interviews to the media and does not publish its resolutions. It has been called “a small wonder” because, after almost 20 years, thousands of clients - all of them - are still personally handled and calendared one at a time.
J.D.R. clients are domestic and foreign, large corporate and small business, public entity and private sector, federal and state, county and municipality, business and individual person.
Typical matters include: business disputes, real estate, employment, medical malpractice, professional liability, product liability, personal injury, family law, appellate review, intellectual property, etc. J.D.R neutrals are requested for the most complex and sensitive matters because of low cost, confidentiality and the parties’ inherent desire to control the resolution of the dispute.
